“The Watchful Wings,” the second track from my mini-album “Gate to the Subconscious,” is a particularly emotional music. It was composed last spring on a piano, inspired by a true event that took place on our green balcony.
A pair of doves arrived and built a nest in a quiet, protected spot. We decided to let them stay because it was so isolated and cozy—”they arranged a suite for themselves,” we joked. We were treated to a wonderful glimpse into their relationship as they faithfully guarded the eggs and later, the two chicks. It was fascinating to follow them.
Then came the less fortunate part of the story. When the two chicks had grown a little and were left alone in the nest, a crow appeared. We saw it from the corner of our eye, and our kids jumped from the sofa in the living room, and we immediately chased it away. But it didn’t give up. It returned the next day, on the evening of Passover, and that time, we missed it. It snatched one chick. The next morning when we woke up, the second chick was also gone. In the days that followed, the doves returned several times and searched for them.
I decided to try and convey this feeling through sound, and to tell the story through the melody. I added additional instruments: guitars, percussion, and electronic sounds to express the emotional journey.
Finally, I animated the story just as it happened, and the result is now before you.
